Kishangarth Fort

GOC Holidaymaker Holidays to North India Palaces and Forts

North India has been fought over throughout its recorded history, and this has left many impressive forts and palaces. The largest are the Mughal Forts in Delhi and Agra, both with walls 25 m high and more than 2 km long, and both filled with impressive palaces.
In Rajisthan there are magnificent palaces and forts, often still occupied by the Rajas, and many partly made into luxury hotels. These are richly decorated with the vivid designs and paintings, showing much of there original opulence. The most important are the Amber Palace and the City Palace in Jaipur, the City Palace in Udaipur, and the forts at Jodhpur, Jaisalmar and Chittaurgarth.
Amber Fort Jaipur
AMBER FORT JAIPUR

Amber Fort in Jaipur is the best known Palace in Rajisthan. Set on a hill a few km outside Jaipur, the view of the bright cream battlements is an unforgettable sight. The 20 minute walk up the hill is often exchanged for an elephant ride. Inside the fort there are many sparkling palaces, rooms, temples with antique paintings. The courtyards have well laid out gardens with views over the surrounding hills.
Samode Palace
SAMODE PALACE

Samode Place, 42 km from Jaipur is typical of the forts and palaces which have been turned into luxury resorts. It has been impeccably restored, and was the setting for films such as "The Far Pavilions". It can be visited without staying at the hotel, to see the highly decorated rooms, filled with antiques and paintings. Samode town outside of the palace has many highly decorated houses and temples.
Rajesthan Turban
RAJESTAN TEXTILES

The Rajisthan traditional clothing is notable for being deeply coloured. The women wear bright orange and purple saris, while the men have equally bright turbans. As well as the clothing and other block-printed and embroidered textiles, Rajisthan, and Jaipur in particular, are the centres for producing Indian handicrafts, jewellery and pottery.
